1965 PONTIAC GTO

1965 PONTIAC GTO

Current value: $85,500
The early Pontiac GTOs are best known as the original American Muscle Cars, and they are some of the most amazing vintage cars on the market today. The 1965 Pontiac GTO was sold with a racing car option, and can go from zero to 60 MPH in 6.1 seconds which remains respectable compared to equivalent cars from its class from the same timeframe. The original GTO would go on to see six different generations of the car built by Pontiac before the manufacturer discontinued the original car line in 1974. The GTO was sold as both a two-door hardtop as well as a convertible, and featured a number of large V-8 engines to power the vehicle over its production life. All of the GTOs produced from this era were rear-wheel drive cars, and they remain a favorite for car collections.

1954 MERCEDES W 196

Current value: $24 million
The 1954 Mercedes W 196 not only competed in the F-1 racing championships in the mid-1950s, but the car dominated the field. Today, the W 196 is one of the most amazing vintage cars that can be found. Mercedes first unveiled the auto at the 1954 Grand Prix located at Reims, and it is now one of the most valuable and sought after autos to be found in a private collection. Although the car would win a total of 12 races, after it crashed at Le Mans in 1955, Mercedes would ultimately pull out of the competitive racing circuit for approximately 30 years. The W 196 is powered by a 2.5 liter liter straight eight that is rated at 257 horsepower. Mercedes would go on to make improvements to the engine that would result in an improved power output of 340 horsepower.

1962 FERRARI 330 TRI/LM

1962 FERRARI 330 TRI/LM

Current value: $6.5-8 million
The 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM is one of the most amazing vintage cars from the early 1960s. Once Ferrari made inroads on the racing circuit against the other major auto brands, the company was able to start dominating the racing circuit towards the end of the decade. The Ferrari 330 TRI/LM was one of the last of the Testarossas of this generation produced, and is one of the most sought after vintage cars held by a private collector today. The car also has the distinction of being the last front-engined race car to win the coveted Le Mans with only a four-cylinder engine to power the automobile.

1969 ZL1 CAMARO

1969 ZL1 CAMARO

Current value: $425,000
The 1969 ZL1 Camaro is a truly amazing vintage car that saw a very limited production run of only 69 automobiles during its production life. The car is powered by an extremely powered aluminum V-8 engine that is rated at over 500 horsepower and only weighs in at 500 lbs. The zero to 60 second time of the ZL1 is only 5.3 seconds which put it in the top of all muscle cars of its time for speed, and was a primary reason that many of the car models found their way into the drag-racing circuit. Chevy also went to great lengths to ensure the car was legal to drive on public roadways in the United States; however, the big price for the car at the time did not make it a significant commercial success in the marketplace.

1956 FERRARI 860 MONZA

 1956 FERRARI 860 MONZA

Current value: $2.5 million
The 1956 Ferrari 860 Monza is one of the most amazing vintage cars on the road today. During the heyday of the 1950’s racing scene, the Ferrari brand had yet to make a name for itself going against the ‘Big Three’ of car manufacturers at the time to include Jaguar, Maserati, and Aston Martin. The 860 Monza was Ferraris response, and it is powered by the strongest four-cylinder engine to ever be made by the now famous car company. The 3.4 liter engine is rated at 280 horsepower which combined with the larger wheelbase debuted by Ferrari for the 860 Monza gave the car the reliability it needed to win on the track. The company would only go on to produce three models of the 0604M variant, and it is also one of the most valuable vintage cars on the market today as well.

MOSLER MT900S

MOSLER MT900S

Weighing just 2,275 pounds and equipped with an eight-cylinder, 7,000-cc, 600-horsepower General Motors LS7 engine mounted behind the driver and a six-speed manual transmission, Mosler MT900s is powerful and fun to drive. Mosler Automotive claims that the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. At the low engine speed of 1,000 revolutions per minute in first gear, this car goes 40 mph. So far, they have made only 20 of these cars.

HENNESSEY VENOM GT

HENNESSEY VENOM GT

Somehow they managed to install a huge engine into a small, lightweight car, and pushed the limits of automotive performance. With the body shell of a Lotus Exige and an eight-cylinder, 6,200-cc, 1,200-horsepower, twin-turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels of a 2,700-pound car, it is not difficult to understand how, with a power to weight ratio of nearly 1:2.25, it recorded a top speed of 270.49 mph in February 2014 on the Kennedy Space Center shuttle landing strip, making it one of the fastest production cars, if not in fact the fastest, in the world.
Production is on a small scale for now, just 10 vehicles per year. As of August 2014, 16 of the 29 produced Venom GTs were sold.

FORD GT

FORD GT

Ford GT is an American mid-engine two-seater sports car inspired by Ford’s GT40 racing cars of the 1960s and produced during the 2005 and 2006 model years. Total production for both years was 4,038.
Ford GT features a superplastic frame with aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a welded center tunnel, one-piece door panels, and an aluminum engine cover. Brakes are aluminum Brembo calipers cross-drilled and vented on all wheels.
The mid-mounted aluminum, eight-cylinder, 5,400-cc, supercharged, 550-horsepower engine and six-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential, tested by Car and Driver and Motor Trend magazines in 2004, recorded 0 to 60 mph acceleration times of 3.3, 3.5, and 3.7 seconds.

FISKER KARMA

FISKER KARMA

As a 5,300-pound, full-size, four-door sedan, Fisker Karma is an unusual supercar: it is fuel efficient and “the first true electric luxury vehicle with extended range” capable of 112 miles per gallon of gas. Karma made its debut at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. Fisker uses cheap, lightweight sheet molding compound body panels to decrease weight and increase fuel efficiency.
Karma is a hybrid powered by a four-cylinder, 2,000-cc, 260-horsepower turbocharged engine and by two 120-kilowatt electric motors charged by lithium ion batteries. The front-mounted four-cylinder gas engine generates electricity for the drive motors and the batteries. The electric motors are the sole forces directly driving the wheels. Karma has the top speed of 125-mph and reaches 60 mph in 6.3 seconds – those are ambitious claims for a car weighing more than two and a half tons.
The cars are manufactured in Finland. The first deliveries occurred in the USA in July 2011, and about 1,800 units went to North America and Europe by December 2012. Production suspended in November 2012 with about 2,450 Karmas built. Fisker Automotive filed for bankruptcy in November 2013. Successor owners say they plan to resume Karma production by the end of 2014 or early 2015.

AUDI TTS

AUDI TTS

The Audi TTS is a little European rocket ship, capable of crushing most muscle cars that line up next to it. The simple exterior design is what makes the TTS so gorgeous. The rounded edges on the bumper flow perfectly into the fenders, while the large aggressive grille and almost angry looking headlights accent the front perfectly. Nothing seems out of place or added in after-the-fact. The TTS is more than just looks, she’s powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated with a 6-speed transmission, putting down 292 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Hitting zero to sixty in 5.2 seconds and reaching 0 – 100 in 13.0 seconds flat, this beauty has some serious oompf. The TTS comes standard with all-wheel drive, allowing it to navigate corners at high speeds as if they were straightaways.

KOENIGSEGG AGERA R

KOENIGSEGG AGERA R

Top Speed: 260 mph
Debuting at the March 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Koenigsegg Agera R is one of the fastest cars ever built. Under the hood of this beast is a 5.0 liter V8 engine with twin turbos, producing 1099 horsepower. During test sessions in  Ã„ngelholm, the Agera R broke six world land speed records for a production car, including 0–189 mph in 14.53 seconds, and 0-189-0 mph in only 21.19 seconds. While the Agera R has a massive theoretical top speed, the current tested top speed is 260 mph. The braking performance required to maintain the Agera R’s  record’s is enabled in part by the Agera’s stability. The adaptive rear wing system is lighter than conventional hydraulic/electrical adaptive systems, and has the unique ability to compensate for head/tailwind due to its spring-loaded design.

SALEEN S7 TWIN-TURBO

SALEEN S7 TWIN-TURBO

Top Speed: 248 mph
Built by the Saleen Company, who are known for their specialized tunes of American muscle cars, the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo a custom creation. Under the hood is a twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 750 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a six-speed manual, uncommon for a hypercar, as the usually utilize paddle shifters. Amazingly, this is still a clean engine, featuring an extensive emission control system and is compliant to OBD-II standards. In order to improve aerodynamics, modified front fenders, as well as new diffusers and spoilers were installed. This resulted in a 40 percent decrease in drag and a 60 percent increase in down force. The top speed of the S7 is 248 mph and the zero to sixty time clocks in at 2.8 seconds.

PORSCHE CARRERA GT

PORSCHE CARRERA GT

Top Speed: 205 mph
Built to be a fast, beautiful car, the Porsche Carrera GT achieves its goal with ease. Under the good is a 5.7 liter V10 engine producing 612 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque. The Carrera GT is a mid engine car, with the engine directly behind the vehicle occupants. What was innovative about this car is the way that its engine is placed: with the use of a clutch made of a high-tech ceramic material, it allowed the engine to sit lower in the chassis than in any other supercar. This feature not only makes the Carrera GT a road car with the looks of a race car, but also improves its aerodynamics and lowers its center of gravity. The Carrera GT lacks any electronic driving aids that are usually found in newer cars, in order to give the vehicle a true race car feel. The top speed of the Carrera GT is 205 mph.
