The surprising reason more cars broke down in 2015 than ever before

more cars broke down on the side of the road in 2015 than in any other year. In fact, AAA says dead batteries, flat tires and key problems contributed to 32 million drivers needing to pull over and call for assistance.
You might think your high-tech car is better than that old-school Honda sitting in your neighbor’s driveway, but a new AAA study reveals technology in newer cars is one of the main reasons why so many people are left stranded.
The AAA reports that cars five years old and younger experience more key-related issues compared to older cars. The problem is that keyless entry remotes (also known as fobs), continue to transmit signals to the receiver when left in the car. Over time, this can drain your battery, leaving you out of luck the next time you try to start your car. In addition, despite the advances in technology, AAA said they responded to four million calls in 2015 from drivers locked out of their vehicles.
Another huge issue centers around spare tires. If you have a newer car, you might’ve noticed that it didn’t come with a spare tire. In recent years, standard car features have changed . and many manufactures have nixed the extra tire to reduce vehicle weight and boost fuel economy. Instead,
We can all agree that a car breakdown can a ruin a perfectly fine day, but it doesn’t have to. Follow these tips to avoid a breakdown and all of the costs associated:
1. Make maintenance a priority
Tire pressure and inflation should be checked once a month. Tires should also be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, but check your car manual for manufacturer suggestions.
2. Invest in a Plan C
It’s OK if you have a tire inflation kit in your car; in many cases it gets you on your way more quickly and with less hassle than changing a spare tire. Still, it doesn’t hurt to invest in a spare tire, especially if you’re going on a long road trip. This way, you have another option if the tire kit fails.
3. Hold on to your keys
Always take your keys when you exit the car. This sounds like a no-brainer, but many people with keyless entry remotes or smart keys leave them in the car for convenience. As stated above, this can drain your battery or lead to a lockout — causing a much bigger headache.
3. Know your battery power
AAA recommends that drivers have their vehicle’s battery tested when it reaches three years of age and on an annual basis thereafter.

Honda Fit EXL First Review: One Size Fits All 2015

Small cars usually mean big compromises when it comes to balancing comfort, roominess, efficiency and sticker price. Since its introduction, the Honda Fit has been at the top of the list in offering an efficient package with an affordable MSRP that's also fun-to-drive. The 2015 Honda Fit EXL builds on that reputation by making the new model more substantial in looks, trim and equipment while offering better fuel economy at a price surprisingly close to the previous generation
The big enabler in Honda's ability to offer more without a huge bump in price is the shift in the car's production from Japan to a new plant in Mexico. The lower costs in both labor and transportation are at the heart of the big improvements on offer

Shorter, yet roomier

The 5-door Fit retains its cute bug eye styling, but in a slightly larger package that adds a sweeping character line to the side. This line not only gives the car a sense of forward motion, but its deep draw also makes the flanks of the car less slab sided and more muscular, which is important in a car that rides on a 99.6-inch wheelbase and measures 160 inches overall. While the wheelbase has grown by 1.2 inches and width by 0.3 inches, overall length is actually 1.6-inches shorter. The all-new platform underneath the car not only takes advantage of the extra wheelbase, but also repositions the 50/50 split rear seat to help boost that row's legroom by nearly 5 inches
These new dimensions add to the feel of a more substantial vehicle. The front passengers have more elbow room and the rear seat offers the kind of space found in cars a class or two above. The 2015 Honda Fit also retains the previous model's center-mounted fuel tank, which pays huge dividends when it comes to hauling stuff. This allows for a low rear cargo deck and a folding rear seat as flexible as a circus contortionist. Fold the seat forward and the bottom cushion nests into the footwell allowing for a fold-flat cargo area. The bottom cushions can also be lifted up and secured against the seatback providing a tall load space behind the front seats and finally, the front seats can be reclined all the way back and form a bed with the rear seats for the so-called "Refresh" mode

New Engine, Better Fuel Economy

Using direct injection, the all-new Earth Dreams 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine produces 130 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque (up 23 horsepower and 8 lb-ft) driving the front wheels. Honda offers a choice of a CVT (with paddle shift-controlled steps for a sporty driving experience) and a 6-speed manual transmission. The CVT delivers 33 mpg city, 41 highway and a combined 36 mpg on the EPA cycle, a boost of five mpg in city and combined and six mpg highway over the previous model, which was equipped with a conventional 5-speed automatic. The manual transmission is rated at 29 mpg city, 37 highway for a combined of 32. These gains are more modest at a respective two, four and three mpg
Along with the new powertrain, Honda redesigned the suspension with a new strut-type setup in the front and an H-bar torsion beam in the rear. The slightly wider track and new suspension reinforces the feel that this car is more substantial than the model it replaces. Steering is light, quick and responsive; the car exhibits little in the way of roll. Because of the longer wheelbase, the ride is compliant for a car with such a short overall length

Safety in a Small Package

Even though the Fit is Honda's entry level model, it offers a wide range of safety features including the Lane Watch system found on larger models that projects an image of the right side of the car in the center screen when the right turn signal is activated. The Fit also offers such features as a rearview camera, Hill Start Assist and a motion adaptive electric power steering that helps initiate turn-in in the proper direction when the vehicle stability assist detects oversteer or understeer
With Lane Watch and backup cameras come either a 5.5-inch standard screen or on upmarket EX and EXL models, a 7-inch touchscreen. The screen is nestled in a dash covered with soft-touch materials, which also extend to the door panels. The interior has an upscale aura not usually associated with cars in this class. The outgoing model features only two trim levels, base and Sport/Sport Navi, while the 2015 Honda Fit starts with an LX model, with EX, EXL and EXL with Navi. The LX includes such new features for the base car as a rearview camera, the 5.5-inch screen and automatic headlamps. Pricing starts at $15,525 for a manual LX (the CVT is $800 more), an increase of just $100 over the previous base model. The EX, which replaces the Sport trim, is only $225 more and starts at $17,435 for the manual and $18,235 for the CVT with added content that includes the 7-inch screen, more powerful engine, auto headlamps and review camera. The EXL model, which is only offered with the CVT is $19,800, while the EXL Navi is priced at $20,800, just slightly more than the previous Sport Navi, which cost $19,970
With the 2015 Fit, Honda has raised the bar in a segment that has some pretty tough competition in the Nissan Versa Note, Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2. It's no longer a question of settling for less, but rather settling for the best

Lexus RC F makes a sudden impact in Detroit 2015

The eagerly-anticipated 2015 Lexus RC F made its global debut in Detroit, and this enthusiast-grade iteration of the Lexus RC Coupe revealed last November in Tokyo takes the exhilaration index up a major notch with an even bolder appearance, more tautly tuned suspension and a potent V8 engine under its prominently bulged hood. While the vehicle is still undergoing final development, Lexus offered enough hard facts at the unveiling to confirm the 2015 RC F will be one seriously fast and furious addition to what it promised will be an expanding high-performance lineup

As with previous "F-spec" models, the bodywork on the Lexus RC F imparts a new edge to its appearance while enhancing the car's aero profile and includes a number of carbon fiber components to help trim weight. For openers, both fascia treatments have been revised to convey more menacing character manifested in details like a prominent recasting of the signature Spindle grille form, large outboard air intakes and supplemental stabilizing fins up front that are countered with a more powerfully configured diffuser, canted-quad stacked exhaust outlets and an LFA-style auto-deploying rear spoiler that rises when vehicle speed exceeds 50 mph and retracts when it drops below 25 mph. The side view of the RC F further contributes to its bad-boy flair with the unique hood design complemented by functional vents aft of the front wheelwells and more deeply contoured side sills, all set off by a choice of three different 19-inch forged alloy wheels

The cabin of the new Lexus RC F gets an equally focused remake that overlays the basic RC Coupe design with a host of bespoke RC F details that also pay homage to the automaker's LFA supercar. It starts with a new elliptical-rim steering wheel - the first on any Lexus model - wrapped in leather and fitted with finger-friendly shifter paddles that overlooks an instrument panel that includes a programmable main gauge cluster with four driver-selectable modes -- each offering its own color scheme and data display. Other highlights include a navigation/infotainment system that features a 7.0-inch screen as well as a new touchpad interface to simplify operation of all related functions. Bedecked with an embossed F logo on each headrest, the RC F's unique high-back sport buckets can be had in any of five different leather trims while its metal sport pedals feature distinctive L-shaped rubber elements

Although output specifics have yet to be finalized, the 2015 Lexus RC F packs a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that's its maker says will develop "more than 450 horsepower and more than 383 pound feet of torque." In addition to being the most potent V8 ever to appear in any Lexus model, it also will be the first to incorporate Atkinson Cycle combustion technology that enhances fuel efficiency under most normal driving conditions. However, the engine can switch back to conventional Otto Cycle operation to deliver full power on demand. Motive force will be shipped to the RC F's rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Other elements in the mix include a Torque Vectoring Differential with three driver-selectable programs that can optimize the car for street or track use, a comprehensively retuned version of the base RC Coupe's front-strut/rear-multilink suspension and upgraded brakes

Like the 2015 Lexus RC 350 Coupe, the new Lexus RC F will start arriving in showrooms here this fall. Pricing, final spec and EPA numbers for both cars will be announced closer to their on-sale date

Bentley Continental GT lineup freshened 2015

British luxury automaker Bentley Motors will take the wraps off styling enhancement and feature upgrades across the Continental GT line at the Geneva Motor Show. The new design cues, wheel choices, interior improvements and mechanical tweaks are being applied to all 2015 Bentley Continental GT Coupes, GT Speed and GT Convertible models

According to Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman/CEO of Bentley Motors, Bentley offers uncompromised luxury and performance with ultimate comfort for grand touring and our new 2015 features extend the appeal of our family. With these new evolutions we're making our cars even more stylish, efficient, connected and useable every day

Bolder presence

The goal of the redesign is to give the 2015 Bentley Continental GT lineup a bolder presence that starts with a new front bumper, smaller radiator opening and more pronounced fender lines. In profile, the front fenders also sport a new vent incorporating a metallic flying "B" accent along with new chrome badging that identifies the model as having either a V8 or a W12 engine. At the rear, the decklid has been reshaped with a more aerodynamic sweep to the rear, while the bumper has been redesigned and widened to give the car a more muscular stance. The V8 S and GT Speed have new rear diffuser designs to differentiate these performance versions of the standard Continental GT

In addition to reshaping the car, Continental GT models will offer a new range of wheels in 20- and 21-inch diameters, the standard for the GT V8 and V12 models being a six element tri-spoke wheel. The Mulliner Driving Specification wheel is now a 21" seven-twin-spoke design, finished in graphite with bright machined spokes. Finally, a new 21" five-spoke directional sport wheel joins the existing 21" design available for the V8 S and GT Speed

A cabin with contemporary flair

Inside, the four seats have been trimmed in a straight fluting pattern, while the Mulliner spec package features a tighter small diamond quilting. New controls with an optional sport steering wheel and larger paddles for the sequential shift automatic are among the upgrades. Chromed accents across the console are updated while the instrument panel boasts new dials and graphics for a refreshed, more contemporary look. The cabin is also illuminated by LEDs and the beauty of the new interior is now illuminated by LEDs.  The center console also features a new gloss black gear lever surround, while the rear seat passengers can access a new, hidden center storage compartment

While the V8 engine family carries over unchanged in the Continental GT, the 6.0-liter W12 see power and torque increase from 567 horsepower and 516 lb-ft to 582 horsepower and 531 lb-ft. This additional output is accompanied by a 5-percent increase in fuel economy thanks in part to a new variable displacement system that allows the engine to operate in a 6-cylinder mode. The redesigned 2015 Bentley Continental GT will go on sale this summer

Hyundai Genesis First Review: The Cool Lux Alternative 2015

Hyundai has made it clear that it wants to compete with the likes of Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. The automaker has proved itself a worthy competitor in several automotive segments, successfully going upmarket without losing its sense of value, each new model improving on the one that came before it. The 2015 Genesis continues in the same way: The first generation of the sedan was very good, and the new car is even better

Crisp design inside and out

The 2015 sedan's styling is clean and conveys a strong sense of luxury. The exterior has attractive lines, and is much more understated than the crease-happy little-brother Sonata without looking boring. The Genesis' feel of modern elegance continues in the cabin, where the designers created a space that is attractive and uses quality materials including real wood and metal. The colors and textures match nicely. The comfortable 16-way power heated/cooled driver's seat is wrapped in soft leather. (Seat heaters are optional for rear passengers.) There are nice little touches, too, like power sunshades for the rear side windows and the rear window-and the rearmost one automatically lowers when you put the transmission in Reverse and raises back up when in Drive. The pleasantly quiet cabin is refined, yet doesn't look like it's designed with retirees in mind. This is an interior that would appeal to a young, affluent crowd
A bevy of tech features should also appeal to young, affluent buyers. The standard navigation system uses an 8-inch screen, yet step up to the premium system, and you're looking at a crisp 9.2-inch HD display. There are available Pandora, Aha Radio and (upcoming) Google Glass apps, HD Radio comes standard and the car is capable of serving as a wi-fi hotspot. As an added bonus, SiriusXM Travel Link is free for 3 years. The car's excellent Lexicon surround-sound systems use either 14 or 17 speakers. All of the infotainment can be accessed through an intuitive system similar to Audi's Multi-Media Interface with a knob and surrounding buttons

Two powertrain choices

Whether you opt for the 3.8-liter V6 or the 5.0-liter V8, there is no shortage of power. We drove both, starting our evaluation in the V8-powered Genesis. Acceleration response was very quick, yet the 8-speed automatic transmission's shifts were smooth and happened right when you would want them to. Of course, it should feel fast, considering the V8 puts out 420 horsepower. The other side of that coin is that fuel economy is 15 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. We also drove the Genesis with the V6, and even though it didn't provide as much power as the V8, it still felt refined and gutsy. At 311 horsepower, the V6 doesn't penalize much in its output, yet the price is $13,500 less than the base V8. The V6 also provides much better fuel economy: as good as 18 mpg city, 29 highway for the rear-drive sedan, and 16/25 with all-wheel drive, which is offered for the first time in the Genesis, only with the V6
The 2015 Genesis uses a new Hyundai-designed platform that is stronger and more rigid than before. That, plus the improvements that were done to the suspension, make the car feel more agile. The driver has some say in how it rides-if you want a comfortable, compliant ride, you'll enjoy Eco or Normal modes. Want to tighten up the suspension? Switch to Sport mode

Invisible Touch

One of the new features of the 2015 Genesis is Lane Keep Assist. This system senses if the sedan is starting to drift out of the lane it's in, uses haptic feedback in the steering wheel to warn you if it senses drifting, and steers back into the lane if you don't correct your direction of travel. We found the system to intrude a bit on sections of moderately curvy road, and fought the steering. However, overall the system works well
Hyundai is known for packing their vehicles with value. In the case of the Genesis, that means a lot of equipment comes standard, such as navigation, hill hold, paddle shifters, rear-view camera, heated/cooled front seats, driver knee airbag, power-folding side mirrors and more, whether you get the V6 or V8. Its base price is $38,950; add $2500 for all-wheel drive ($41,450). The V8-powered Genesis starts at $52,450, but even fully loaded at around $57,000, that's still a bargain compared with Hyundai's target competitors. The Lexus GS starts at $48,610, then there's the Mercedes-Benz E350 ($52,805), Cadillac CTS ($46,025), BMW 5 Series ($50,425) and Audi A6 ($43,985), and all of them top out far north of $57,000. The Genesis may not have the same cachet as these cars, but it is certainly a viable alternative

Nissan Versa Note SR 2015

Expanding the scope of its lineup at both ends of the spectrum, Nissan introduced a pair of new models for the subcompact Versa Note 5-door hatch in Chicago. Boasting a higher visual profile, the 2015 Nissan Versa Note SR caters to younger enthusiasts. The automaker also announced the new Versa Note SL, that adds more sophistication with standard features not often seen in cars of its size

The Versa Note SR's cosmetic changes are evident up front, where a unique fascia and grill treatment is set off by dark headlamp surrounds and standard fog lights with black and chrome accents. The package also uses body-color side spoilers and revised side-view mirrors with integrated directional signals while the rear is topped by a spoiler. The Versa Note SR rides on 195/55 all-season tires on 16-inch high-contrast alloy wheels

Inside, the Versa Note SR has a Euro-inspired motif that includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, seats covered in faux suede with orange accents, a new tri-dial Fine Vision instrument cluster with trip computer and a Piano Black center dash with bright trim. Opting for the SR Convenience Package adds Nissan's trick Divide-N-Hide Adjustable Floor, the NissanConnect system with a 5.0-inch color display, RearView Monitor, Bluetooth Streaming Audio, Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant, USB connection port, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and NissanConnect Apps with smartphone integration for Facebook, Twitter, Pandora as  well as iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio

Using the same 16-inch wheels, the Versa Note SL passes on exterior changes to focus on improving the cabin. It comes standard with all of the SR Convenience Package content as well as variable intermittent front wipers, heated front seats, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and the Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Like all 2015 Versa Note variants, it also features a multifunction steering wheel that incorporates a new Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System

The 2015 Nissan Versa Note SR and Versa Note SL will arrive in dealers this spring along with the existing Versa Note S MT, S Plus CVT and SV CVT models. Pricing for all will be announced closer to the on-sale date

Dodge Charger: Retro Muscle in a Sleeker Package 2015

The Charger has been the full-size bread-and-butter sedan at Dodge since its revival for the 2006 model year, and the division expects this extensively freshened version to maintain sales momentum when it reaches showrooms next fall

All New Skin

Aside from new aluminum axles and axle housings, the chassis carries over from the current Charger. But the skin is almost all new-grille, headlights, hood, fenders, and rear fascia. The roof and rear doors are the only exterior panels that survive, though the base of the rearmost roof pillar has been pulled aft, giving the rear window a faster slope and visually reducing the rear overhang
The goal of the design team was to imbue the new Charger with a sleek skin that would make this big sedan look smaller and lighter, even though the 2015 dimensions are almost exactly the same as those of the current car. A concurrent objective was to preserve the Charger's four-door muscle car persona
It's fair to say the styling effort was successful. Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show, the new Charger sustains the powerful presence of the current car. Dodge cites the 1969 Charger as the inspiration for the 2015 redesign, from the heyday of the muscle car era even though those '69 models were coupes

New Wheels, Hemi Power

Other new exterior details include projector beam headlamps, LED fog lamps, a three-piece rear spoiler (standard on R/T models), center high-mounted stop lamp, and Dodge's "racetrack" LED taillight array. The wheels are also new for all four trim levels, with six different 20-inch styles, including a forged aluminum set, 20 x 9 inches
The car's muscular persona is backed by Chrysler's 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque-in R/T and R/T Road and Track models. The base engine continues to be the 3.6-liter V-6 (292 hp, 260 lb-ft), with 300 hp and 264 lb-ft available in SXT models with the Rallye Appearance Group option package. Both the Hemi and the V-6 are paired with Chrysler's 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic, new with the Charger's Hemi V-8 and the only transmission offered
With the V-6, the Charger is EPA-rated for 31 mpg on the highway, best in class, according to Dodge. All-wheel drive continues to be available, and features a new active transfer case that automatically disconnects the front axle when it's not needed. Dodge engineers claim this feature can improve fuel economy by up to 5 percent

Interior Upgrades

The all-new interior includes new seats, extensive soft touch material on the dash, center console, and door panels, with eight different trim packages, including cloth and leather upholstery choices
The sporty three-spoke steering wheel is new, backed by paddle shifters (optional). A new electronic feature delivers brisk shift times-400 milliseconds, according to Dodge, diminishing to 250 milliseconds in sport mode, which also holds the selected gear to redline. Sporty also applies to the electronic power steering, updated to provide three modes-normal, comfort, and sport-that vary effort to suit the driver's mood
As with almost any of today's new cars, new telematics abound. A standard 7-inch TFT (thin film transistor) programmable screen nestles between the speedometer and tachometer, with programmable info including Dodge Performance Pages. The new center stack embraces a 5.0-inch touchscreen (standard) or 8.4-inch version (optional), with a next generation radio and premium audio options, as well as the available nav system. Chrysler's optional U-Connect Access provides a variety of connectivity features, including a Wi-Fi hotspot and mobile apps
New safety features include lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist; adaptive cruise control capable of a full stop and speed resumption; and forward collision Warning-Plus, which will provide autonomous braking if the driver fails to respond to the situation
As noted, the freshened Charger will go on sale this fall as a 2015 model

2015 ALFA ROMEO 4C

2015 ALFA ROMEO 4C

Starting price: $55,495
The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C is one of the cheapest cars on the market that look like high end exotic cars. With a pending debut in North America, the car has two seats located in front of the mid-mounted engine, and it has the feel of a $300,000 Ferrari. The two-door couple has rear wheel drive and is powered by a turbocharged COHC 16-valve inline-4 rated at 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The transmission on the Romeo 4C is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic with a manual shifting mode. The top speed of the car is 160 MPH, and it can go from zero to 60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds. The fuel economy of the car is also above average with a 24 MPG (city) and 32 MPG (highway) overall rating.
