The surprising reason more cars broke down in 2015 than ever before

more cars broke down on the side of the road in 2015 than in any other year. In fact, AAA says dead batteries, flat tires and key problems contributed to 32 million drivers needing to pull over and call for assistance.
You might think your high-tech car is better than that old-school Honda sitting in your neighbor’s driveway, but a new AAA study reveals technology in newer cars is one of the main reasons why so many people are left stranded.
The AAA reports that cars five years old and younger experience more key-related issues compared to older cars. The problem is that keyless entry remotes (also known as fobs), continue to transmit signals to the receiver when left in the car. Over time, this can drain your battery, leaving you out of luck the next time you try to start your car. In addition, despite the advances in technology, AAA said they responded to four million calls in 2015 from drivers locked out of their vehicles.
Another huge issue centers around spare tires. If you have a newer car, you might’ve noticed that it didn’t come with a spare tire. In recent years, standard car features have changed . and many manufactures have nixed the extra tire to reduce vehicle weight and boost fuel economy. Instead,
We can all agree that a car breakdown can a ruin a perfectly fine day, but it doesn’t have to. Follow these tips to avoid a breakdown and all of the costs associated:
1. Make maintenance a priority
Tire pressure and inflation should be checked once a month. Tires should also be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, but check your car manual for manufacturer suggestions.
2. Invest in a Plan C
It’s OK if you have a tire inflation kit in your car; in many cases it gets you on your way more quickly and with less hassle than changing a spare tire. Still, it doesn’t hurt to invest in a spare tire, especially if you’re going on a long road trip. This way, you have another option if the tire kit fails.
3. Hold on to your keys
Always take your keys when you exit the car. This sounds like a no-brainer, but many people with keyless entry remotes or smart keys leave them in the car for convenience. As stated above, this can drain your battery or lead to a lockout — causing a much bigger headache.
3. Know your battery power
AAA recommends that drivers have their vehicle’s battery tested when it reaches three years of age and on an annual basis thereafter.

1965 PONTIAC GTO

1965 PONTIAC GTO

Current value: $85,500
The early Pontiac GTOs are best known as the original American Muscle Cars, and they are some of the most amazing vintage cars on the market today. The 1965 Pontiac GTO was sold with a racing car option, and can go from zero to 60 MPH in 6.1 seconds which remains respectable compared to equivalent cars from its class from the same timeframe. The original GTO would go on to see six different generations of the car built by Pontiac before the manufacturer discontinued the original car line in 1974. The GTO was sold as both a two-door hardtop as well as a convertible, and featured a number of large V-8 engines to power the vehicle over its production life. All of the GTOs produced from this era were rear-wheel drive cars, and they remain a favorite for car collections.

1969 ZL1 CAMARO

1969 ZL1 CAMARO

Current value: $425,000
The 1969 ZL1 Camaro is a truly amazing vintage car that saw a very limited production run of only 69 automobiles during its production life. The car is powered by an extremely powered aluminum V-8 engine that is rated at over 500 horsepower and only weighs in at 500 lbs. The zero to 60 second time of the ZL1 is only 5.3 seconds which put it in the top of all muscle cars of its time for speed, and was a primary reason that many of the car models found their way into the drag-racing circuit. Chevy also went to great lengths to ensure the car was legal to drive on public roadways in the United States; however, the big price for the car at the time did not make it a significant commercial success in the marketplace.

FORD GT

FORD GT

Ford GT features a superplastic frame with aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a welded center tunnel, one-piece door panels, and an aluminum engine cover. Brakes are aluminum Brembo calipers cross-drilled and vented on all wheels.
The mid-mounted aluminum, eight-cylinder, 5,400-cc, supercharged, 550-horsepower engine and six-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential, tested by Car and Driver and Motor Trend magazines in 2004, recorded 0 to 60 mph acceleration times of 3.3, 3.5, and 3.7 seconds.

AUDI TTS

AUDI TTS

The Audi TTS is a little European rocket ship, capable of crushing most muscle cars that line up next to it. The simple exterior design is what makes the TTS so gorgeous. The rounded edges on the bumper flow perfectly into the fenders, while the large aggressive grille and almost angry looking headlights accent the front perfectly. Nothing seems out of place or added in after-the-fact. The TTS is more than just looks, she’s powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated with a 6-speed transmission, putting down 292 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Hitting zero to sixty in 5.2 seconds and reaching 0 – 100 in 13.0 seconds flat, this beauty has some serious oompf. The TTS comes standard with all-wheel drive, allowing it to navigate corners at high speeds as if they were straightaways.

FERRARI ENZO

FERRARI ENZO

Top Speed: 218 mph
Named after the founder of the company, the Ferrari Enzo is one of the most coveted Ferraris ever made. This gorgeous hypercar was equipped with a 660 horsepower V12 engine that generated 657 lb-ft of torque. The top speed of the Enzo was 218 mph and it was able to reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The Enzo was equipped with an  independent four wheel suspension with actuated shock absorbers, which are adjusted right inside the cabin, and front and rear anti-roll bars. The body was made out of carbon fiber to reduce weight. Only 399 of these amazing cars were built, making them highly sought after. Due to their limited numbers, each time an Enzo crashes the value of all the other Enzos increases, pushing the price upwards of 1 million dollars.

FERRARI F12BERLINETTA

FERRARI F12BERLINETTA

Top Speed: 211 mph
The Ferrari F12berlinetta was created as the successor to the classic 599 GTB Ferrari Fiorano. The suspension and steering are perfectly tuned, as to be expected of a Ferrari vehicle. This car delivers precision handling like that of a formula one vehicle, giving you a racing feel when you really get on the gas. The vehicle looks just as good as it drives, with beautiful curves and body lines that will turn heads when this beast races past.

DODGE VIPER GTS

DODGE VIPER GTS

Between 1998 and 2002 Dodge sold a heavily modified Performance Viper with the GTS badge. Modifications included a reworked engine with higher power and less weight, an almost completely redesigned chassis that was made 60 lb (27 kg) lighter and 25% stiffer in torsional rigidity, a redesigned suspension, and reduced braking distances. Top speed of the Viper GTS was 185 mph and zero to sixty time was 4.0 seconds. The Engine had a power output of 450 horsepower. The only negative aspect of the Viper GTS was the lack of ABS brakes. Without ABS the stopping distance of the Viper GTS was considerably longer than all other cars in it’s class. In every other aspect the Viper GTS proved superior to it’s competition. In 2002, the last year of the Viper GTS, ABS was finally introduced to the vehicle.

ACURA / HONDA NSX SUPERCAR

Price: $151,500
The Acura / Honda NSX Supercar is finally here. It took the company just shy of four years to finally go from concept car to reality for this exotic automobile. The company takes this further by mating the engine to a nine-speed, dual-clutch transmission that is subsequently connected to three electric motors in the automobile. One of the few exotic cars that is a hybrid, the Supercar uses one of the motors to power the rear wheels while the other two provide power to the front wheels. BRICKLIN SV-1

BRICKLIN SV-1

Top speed: 118 MPH
The Bricklin SV-1 is one of the better-known sports cars sold that feature gull wing doors. The auto only saw a limited production run between 1974 and 1976, and was conceptually designed by Herb Grasse working for Malcolm Bricklin who had founded Subaru of America prior to this timeframe. The company was not able to produce the auto quickly enough to sustain a profit, and as a result, only 2,854 were produced. The SV-1 was originally intended to be a safer sports car with an economical price. Of all of the cars with gull wing doors, it is the only auto to include factory powered ones. The additional weight of the safety features added to the SV-1 resulted in a significant amount of weight being added to the vehicle that has a negative impact on its overall performance. The early models are powered by a AMC 360 V-8 with later ones shifting to the Ford Windsor V-8. The early models of the auto included a four-speed manual transmission, while all of the cars produced in 1975 and 1976 only included an automatic transmission.

DELOREAN DMC-12

DELOREAN DMC-12

Top speed: 88 MPH
The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most popular cars that have gull wing doors in the world. The auto was produced and sold on the American car market from 1981 through 1983, and it also featured a fiberglass underbody structure and chassis along with a stainless steel auto body. The car was featured in all three of the Back to the Future movies, and the first prototype of the vehicle was first unveiled in 1976. There are still more than 5,000 of the models still in existence today, and although the car could go to 88 MPH in the movies, the stock speedometer on the auto is limited to a maximum reading of 75 MPH.

PORSCHE 959

PORSCHE 959

Top Speed: 197 mph
Zero to Sixty: 3.7 seconds
While it was only manufactured from 1986 to 1989, the Porsche 959 still holds the title as one of the fastest built six-cylinder vehicles. When it was introduced it was touted as “the world’s fastest street-legal production car,” with a top speed of 197 mph and a zero to sixty time of 3.7 seconds. The Porsche 959 was hailed as the most technologically advanced road sports car ever built, and paved the way for many of today’s modern supercars. One of the first all-wheel drive high performance cars ever built, the Porsche 959 convinced Porsche executives to make all-wheel drive standard on all 911 turbos. The Porsche 959 houses a 2.8 liter twin-turbo flat six engine under its hood, an engine that wouldn’t be matched for some time.
