AUTOZAM AZ-1

Top speed: 87 MPH
The Autozam AZ-1 is a mid-engined sports car built between 1992-1994 and has gull wing doors. The auto was produced by Suzuki, but sold by the Mazda Corporation under the Autozam branding. This car is also known as Suzuki Cara on certain markets. The car is powered by a 657 cc turbocharged engine that is rated at 63 lb-ft of overall torque. Suzuki would also produce the same car; however, branded it the Cara and delivered slightly different engineering to the vehicle. There are models of the vehicle that were converted to left-hand drivers in other countries such as Canada and the U.K; however, the profitability of the vehicle limited its overall production to just two years.

LAMBORGHINI MARZAL

LAMBORGHINI MARZAL

Top speed: 140 MPH
Although the Lamborghini Marzal is a concept car, it is very well known as being one of the most expensive cars ever produced to feature gull wing doors. The car made its debut in 1967 at the Geneva Motor Show, and was created to give Lamborghini an entry into the high-end car sports car market with four seats. The auto is powered by a two liter inline-six cylinder engine that is coupled to a five-speed transmission. Although the company would not go on to produce more Marzals, many of the design features included in the car were used on later models of car produced by the manufacturer. The Marzal is only known to have been driven once by Princess Grace and her husband.

BRISTOL FIGHTER

 BRISTOL FIGHTER

Top speed: 200 MPH
The Bristol Fighter is a niche sports car produced by Bristol cars between 2004 and 2011. The car features a coupe body along with gullwing doors. The designer of the auto is Max Boxstrom who became known for his work as a Formula One engineer. The car is powered by a front-mounted V-10 engine based on the Dodge Viper model that is modified to an overall rating of 515 lb-ft of torque and 525 horsepower. The Fighter S model of the car is further upgraded to a power rating of 628 horsepower. The Fighter was built with rear-wheel drive, and consumers had the choice between a four-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission. The auto’s zero to 60 MPH time is 4.0 seconds, and the vehicle’s top overall speed is 210 MPH.

BRICKLIN SV-1

BRICKLIN SV-1

Top speed: 118 MPH
The Bricklin SV-1 is one of the better-known sports cars sold that feature gull wing doors. The auto only saw a limited production run between 1974 and 1976, and was conceptually designed by Herb Grasse working for Malcolm Bricklin who had founded Subaru of America prior to this timeframe. The company was not able to produce the auto quickly enough to sustain a profit, and as a result, only 2,854 were produced. The SV-1 was originally intended to be a safer sports car with an economical price. Of all of the cars with gull wing doors, it is the only auto to include factory powered ones. The additional weight of the safety features added to the SV-1 resulted in a significant amount of weight being added to the vehicle that has a negative impact on its overall performance. The early models are powered by a AMC 360 V-8 with later ones shifting to the Ford Windsor V-8. The early models of the auto included a four-speed manual transmission, while all of the cars produced in 1975 and 1976 only included an automatic transmission.

MERCEDES 300SL

MERCEDES 300SL

The Mercedes 300SL was the first SL-Class grand tourer produced by the company, and in addition to being the fastest production car of the time, also includes gull wing doors. The auto was produced as a two seat automobile, and it would later evolve to an open roadster model. The car was one of the first to feature direct fuel injection, and it was heavily based on the 1952 W194 model that was a carbureted overhead cam shaft straight 6. The 300SL is powered by 3.0 liter six cylinder engine, and has a four-speed gear box linked to the rear axle of the vehicle. The top speed of the car is 140 MPH (Mercedes claimed 161 MPH at the time), and it has a zero to 60 MPH time of just 7.4 seconds.
