NEW SEAT Alhambra From £25,380

Exterior

Many MPVs have a boxy appearance, and it’s no coincidence; boxy is always best when you’re looking to maximise space. The Alhambra follows this recipe unashamedly, but although its lines aren’t exactly what you’d call ‘flowing’, the looks aren’t too bland. All versions come with alloy wheels and colour-coded bumpers and DOOR handles, along with a chrome surround for the radiator grille. Go for the SE car, which most buyers will, and you also get chrome window surrounds, darkened rear windows and chrome roof rails. SE Lux and FR-Line cars, meanwhile, have a panoramic roof.

Interior

Life’s pretty sweet at the wheel of the Alhambra. You get a cracking view out in all directions – which helps you manage the car’s cumbersome size during low-speed manoeuvres – and all versions have the added security of front- and rear-parking sensors. Everything on the dashboard is logically located and really easy to use, and there’s a feeling of substance and solidity because most of the materials look and feel very nice indeed. Some of the plastics are a little hard and unappealing in places, but it all looks like it’ll last a lifetime.

Running costs

The Alhambra is significantly bigger and heavier than a lot of seven-seat MPVs, so it’s never going to be the cleanest option, but even so, it doesn’t do too bad a job. The cleanest version, the 2.0 TDI 150 Ecomotive S, returns 56.5mpg, along with CO2 emissions of 130g/km, and all versions bar the petrol will better 50mpg. Purchase prices are very competitive, especially considering the amount of space and kit you’re getting for your money, and resale values aren’t half bad, either.

Reliability

The Warranty Direct Reliability Index tells a bit of a mixed story where the Alhambra is concerned. As a manufacturer, Seat doesn’t do too badly, hovering around the mid-table mark in the brand rankings. Look at the results for the older version of the Alhambra, though, and the reliability score is about as low as it’s possible to get, with engine troubles being the biggest cause of mechanical issues. The owner reviews on our own website also report some rather nerve-wracking stories about the car’s dependability. A rather average three-year/60,000-mile warranty package is included.

Safety

We always like it when the safety kit you get in a car is the same no matter whether you have the most basic version or the range-topping version, and the Alhambra is one of those. Stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, tiredness recognition and multi-collision braking (which locks on the anchors after a shunt to prevent further collisions) are all provided, along with no less than seven airbags including a driver’s knee ‘bag and curtain ‘bags that cover all three rows of seats.

The only thing that’s really missing is autonomous city braking, and it’s not even available as an optional extra. Nevertheless, the car has achieved the full five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests, even though that was back in 2010 and the tests have become considerably harder since then.

Toyota New Prius 2016

Toyota New Prius Preview

The Toyota Prius needs no introduction. One of the highest selling hybrid cars in the world, the Prius has been endorsed by everyone from Greenpeace and Hollywood celebrities. Toyota has been selling the Prius in India for quite some time now and has unveiled the next generation Prius at the Auto Expo 2016.
The fourth-generation Toyota Prius gets all new looks. While we could best describe the looks as alien, the car looks striking. The boomerang-like headlamps, vertical LED fog lamps and a snout-like front bumper can best be called futuristic by all standards. Moving on to the side, it is a four-door coupe with a sloping roofline that blends into the notchback. The cabin seems spacious for four with enough headroom in the back. The rear also gets the boomerang-like lamps with LEDs flowing down from the top of the boot. The creases and cuts toe the alien-design line from the front. As for the dimensions, the new Prius is 60mm longer, 15mm wider and 20mm lower than the old Prius.
The dashboard is a geek paradise with its many buttons, screens and warning lights. The speedometer is digital and the infotainment system is touchscreen. The infotainment system can be connected to your phone via Bluetooth and gets the latest software like Apple Car Play, Android Auto and MirrorLink. Dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, cruise control and automatic climate control are standard. It gets airbags, an electronic stability programme with emergency braking.
The Prius is a hybrid and has a 1.8-litre four cylinder petrol engine paired with electric motors to make up its powertrain. While the setup is same as before, the engine has been tuned for better efficiency. The batteries have a higher energy density and the motors are smaller. The efficiency has improved by almost 10 per cent and Toyota expects the Prius to deliver 40kmpl.
The current Prius is offered at about Rs 38 lakh in India. The new generation Prius will also be imported as a CBU with an estimated price a tad under Rs 40 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

Lawsuit Over 30 of Paul Walker’s Stolen Cars Settled

After Paul Walker passed away in a tragic accident, a collection of over 30 of his cars were taken from a warehouse within 24 hours. The cars were taken by Richard Taylor, who worked at the warehouse. Last year, Walker’s family filed a lawsuit against Taylor with the intention of having the cars returned or monetary value equal to the value of the cars. Now, The Drive is reporting that the lawsuit has been settled.

According to the drive, an attorney for the Walker family stated that the lawsuit was settled “amicably” with one of the conditions being that they will be “getting things back.” We can assume that these “things” are the cars being held. This seems to be the only information that is available at the moment.

If you aren’t familiar with Walker’s cars, Matt Farah (who is now with The Drive) took a tour of Paul Walker’s collection back in 2012. You can view this video below. The cars include models such as the Saleen S7, Boss 302, C1 Corvette, supercharged, Ford GT, BMW M1, Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, two Porsche GT3 RS’, BMW 2002 Touring Alpina and much more. He didn’t just act like he loved cars, he did in real life as well.

If you were a fan of Walker and would like to help carry on his name for a good cause, be sure to lend your aid to the Paul Walker Foundation. You can learn more at: http://www.paulwalkerfoundation.org/

The surprising reason more cars broke down in 2015 than ever before

more cars broke down on the side of the road in 2015 than in any other year. In fact, AAA says dead batteries, flat tires and key problems contributed to 32 million drivers needing to pull over and call for assistance.
You might think your high-tech car is better than that old-school Honda sitting in your neighbor’s driveway, but a new AAA study reveals technology in newer cars is one of the main reasons why so many people are left stranded.
The AAA reports that cars five years old and younger experience more key-related issues compared to older cars. The problem is that keyless entry remotes (also known as fobs), continue to transmit signals to the receiver when left in the car. Over time, this can drain your battery, leaving you out of luck the next time you try to start your car. In addition, despite the advances in technology, AAA said they responded to four million calls in 2015 from drivers locked out of their vehicles.
Another huge issue centers around spare tires. If you have a newer car, you might’ve noticed that it didn’t come with a spare tire. In recent years, standard car features have changed . and many manufactures have nixed the extra tire to reduce vehicle weight and boost fuel economy. Instead,
We can all agree that a car breakdown can a ruin a perfectly fine day, but it doesn’t have to. Follow these tips to avoid a breakdown and all of the costs associated:
1. Make maintenance a priority
Tire pressure and inflation should be checked once a month. Tires should also be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, but check your car manual for manufacturer suggestions.
2. Invest in a Plan C
It’s OK if you have a tire inflation kit in your car; in many cases it gets you on your way more quickly and with less hassle than changing a spare tire. Still, it doesn’t hurt to invest in a spare tire, especially if you’re going on a long road trip. This way, you have another option if the tire kit fails.
3. Hold on to your keys
Always take your keys when you exit the car. This sounds like a no-brainer, but many people with keyless entry remotes or smart keys leave them in the car for convenience. As stated above, this can drain your battery or lead to a lockout — causing a much bigger headache.
3. Know your battery power
AAA recommends that drivers have their vehicle’s battery tested when it reaches three years of age and on an annual basis thereafter.

Ford Shelby GT-H 2016

To properly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the fabled Shelby GT350-H, a rental-only performance car available through Hertz, Ford, Shelby American and Hertz have once again teamed up to create a modern take on that legendary Mustang that was revealed in New York. Roughly 140 versions of this new version, now named 2016 Shelby GT-H, will be produced, once again dressed in the classic black and gold livery. As before, they’ll be exclusively on offer through Hertz, this time as part of its Adrenaline Collection at select airport locations in the continental United States starting on Memorial Day Weekend.

Our goal was to give everyone a chance to add some fun to their travel with a distinctive American pony car,” said Doug White, Ford Performance Parts manager. “So Ford Performance and Shelby American sharpened the handling, improved the performance, sweetened the exhaust note and added distinctive Hertz styling to the Mustang. Anyone who rents a limited-edition Ford Shelby GT-H will enjoy a very special driving experience

Looks hot, drives cool

To be built at the Shelby American assembly facility in Las Vegas, the 2016 Shelby GT-H ups the adrenalin ante of a standard Mustang GT both cosmetically and functionally. A megadose of Shelby body bits that range from a carbon fiber front splitter and vented polycarbonate hood to bespoke rocker sills and a rear spoiler get set off by requisite Shelby, Hertz and Ford Performance badging while the cabin gets custom Shelby GT-H floor mats, door sill plates, head restraint covers and a dash plaque. The cars also are fitted with a Ford Performance Handling Pack that brings unique dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered-wheel kit that features matte-black alloys wrapped in meaty (255/40 front/275/40 rear) Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tires along with a Ford Performance cat-back exhaust kit that includes chrome dual outlets.
The 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H became a legend from the moment it was introduced,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “Ten years ago, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H earned the same ‘rock star’ status when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show. We worked closely with Ford Performance to make the 2016 Shelby GT-H the most exciting Mustang ever to wear the iconic Hertz black and gold livery
